In the 9 years at Newburg, we have felt that God had put us here “for such a time as this”.  As Esther was made queen of Persia in 400 BC to save the Jews from extinction, so God has commissioned us to shepherd His flock in faithfully, making disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.

In 2003, the New Hope congregation did not have a unified vision, with two houses of worship and a newly renovated Mission and Education building that was paid for but not utilized to its full potential.

In 2004, we began extending our vision by starting God’s Little Ones Day Care in the Educational Building.  This ministry exists for the Christian care of children (six weeks to school age with before and after school care) and as a mission of the Church.

Through a church study, we were directed to come together in one building, as one congregation, and be the church of Jesus Christ, reach out in mission.  To fulfill this directive, we helped the smaller worship center establish their own church with a historical focus and we began the process of selling the old sanctuary and building a new sanctuary connected to the Mission and Educational building.

As we began our discernment process to build a new sanctuary, we were lead to a firm, “Building God’s Way”.  That was exactly what we wanted (to build God's way) and we began the building process as part of the overall ministry of the church.   We ministered to every workman on the job sight with prayers, meals, special occasions and daily greetings.  Every person on the job was touched with the love of God in Christ Jesus.

During that process we were in awe of what God was doing in our midst and knew that He was not giving us this new space for us alone; but for all those who were not yet here…YOU!  So, we began to prayerful consider how the God of the impossible would use us and these new facilities in a great way!

In June 2009, we consecrated the new sanctuary and we accepted Christ's great commission:  “Go make disciples of Jesus Christ of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”(Matthew 28:19-20)

The Matthew 28 mandate  lead us through another church consultation in which we were given prescriptions to help us move forward with our mission and ministry.

First,  was to restructure our church with a Church Council that would be Visionary in nature, always looking to where God is leading us;  and a Staff lead by the Pastor who would  implement the Mission and Vision of the Church.

Second, we discerned three goals that we felt God was calling us to as a congregation over the next 5 years:

·         To create a vibrant, joyful, spirit filled Worship experience adding a service with a contemporary focus

·         To create a fun, family based Children’s Ministry that reaches into the community, with volunteers that are led and equipped by a paid staff person

·         To create a community driven, dynamic, mission-based Youth Ministry and a Young Adult Ministry that will develop new believers.

Over the last three years, we have seen many changes in our worship, children and youth ministry.  Throughout all these 9 years, we have been a church constantly seeking the Lord through deep prayer.  Our Prayer Team meets every Thursday evening and is the spiritual force behind what God is doing at Newburg.

We invite you to be a part of the Prayer Team, Worship Team, Youth Team or Children’s Team.  Just call the church office to be connected with the coordinators, and let’s talk about what God is doing in your life and how He might be calling you to a ministry at Newburg UMC.
